PROJECT LIFE – MGNREGS
The objective of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 aims at building sustainable livelihoods for the rural households. In pursuance of this objective, a Project for Livelihoods in Full Employment under MGNREGA (Project LIFE- MGNREGA) has been formulated. The project aims at promoting self-reliance and improving the skill-base of the MGNREGA workers, and thereby improving livelihoods of MGNREGA workers, so that they can move from the current partial employment to full employment status and thereby reduce their dependence on MGNREGS
This project will be implemented as per the following strategy:
Skill Development
KEY SECTORS IDENTIFIED FOR SKILLING
Skilling intervention through DDU-GKY shall be taken up under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) for youth from rural households whose members have completed at least 15 days of work under MGNREGA in the previous Financial Year.
Under the scheme, workers are afforded skilling opportunities under three heads-
Secondly, workers are given an option to develop skills of entrepreneurship and the category consists of total five trades including Agri-related EDPs – Dairy, Fisheries, Sericulture, etc., Process related, Product related and General EDPs such as Specialized Training for Disabled Persons, etc.
The third category with 11 trades, extends skill up gradation opportunity and includes Backyard poultry, Integrated Land Development under MGNREGA, Sustainable Agriculture practices, improving soil fertility, pest management, Vermi-composting, etc.
